Tyrov (Angerbach)

Tyrov (Angerbach). This Gothic castle was established in 1249 by Czech King Wenceslaus I. as a point of royal power on the promontory hill between the Berounka River and influx of Upor Creek as a French castle type with multiple oval towers. During the Hussite Wars the fortress was never captured. After 1442 was the castle moved by Emperor Sigismund to Alexius Holicky Count of Sternberg. Late the proprietors several times changed between Czech Kings and various noblemen. Finally Czech King Jiri of Podebrady deposited the castle to the noblemen hands and the castle became rapidly desolated and till 1575 had been mentioned as a wasted fortress.

The castle was built in the 1st half of the 13th century, during the Hussite wars it was one of the support bases of the Catholics, deserted since 1574. An example of an ingeniously fortified castle in a French style. In 1315-16, Jindrich from Lipe was imprisoned there.
