Lnáře

Castle Lnáře. The complex comprises the Old Castle and the New Castle, built in the 17th century right next to the Old Castle. The Old Castle was the original Gothic fortress of Lords of Lnáře. It was rebuilt into the Renaissance chateau in the 16th century. In the 19th century it was changed into a brewery and in the 1980′s it was reconstructed for a residential use. The construction of the New Castle started about 1670 near the Old Castle. It was finished in 1686. The New Castle has not been reconstructed up till present, only the interiors were changed through the years. A lot of owners changed there through time.

Two-storeged four-winged New Castle has a rectangular courtyard. The access to the chateau is possible by the stone bridge across the moat. In the interiors and in the Baroque St. Joseph’s Chapel there are rich stucco decorations and paintings from the middle of the 17th century. On the courtyard there is a statue of Neptune from the end of the 17th century. The English park (originally a Baroque garden till the 1720′s) with sculptures of Greek gods and goddesses surrounds the New Castle.
