Plasy

ENG Plasy is a small town in the Pilsen Region of the Czech Republic. It lies on the Střela River, some 20 km to the north from the region capital of Pilsen. It is famous for its huge Cistercian monastery founded in 1144, which was rebuilt between 1661 and 1739 under the guidance of J. B. Mathey and J. B. Santini and became an important center of Baroque art. After Emperor Joseph II abolished nearly all religious orders in the Habsburg Empire, the monastery became the seat of the Princes of Metternich. Today, the monastery is owned by the state and it is in a rather bad state though it is being slowly restored (and remains opened to public). There are also some regional archives placed there. No important industry is located in the town. With its scenic surroundings, the town is an important touristic center.

The former Cistercian monastery was founded, in the valley of the Střela river, before 1146, by prince Vladislav IInd. During the Baroque re-building according to the project of J. B. Santini and K. I. Dienzenhofer, one of the largest monastery buildings in Europe with unique hygienic equipment of the period. Passing through the object are four visitors’ rounds, made accessible newly is the granary with the clock tower.

RUS Монастырь в Пласах основал в 1144 году чешски князь Владислав II как часть своих стремлений колонизировать неожитые территории раннего средневекового государства. Масштабное средневековое строительство поникло при проведении барокной перестройки по планам Яна Блажея Сантини и Килиана Игнация Динценгофера. Последние строительные работы произошли в 19-м столетии тогдашним канцлером Меттенрихом. Уникальностью монастыря является барокное гигиеническое помещение (преветы и писуары) и целая система канализации и вентиляции.
